With special thanks to Barton upon Humber Mayor Paul Vickers we are able to offer you this amazing money cant buy opportunity to tour the towers and help to raise money for a great local charity, which is close to everyone’s heart in the local area… Huge thank you for calling on us to help with this again.
THIS DRAW IS FOR CHARITY SO EVERY PENNY RAISED FROM THIS WILL BE DONATED….
GEO the military men’s talking group was created by HULL4HEROES, after the loss of our son George to suicide. George’s nick name was GEO and GEO stands for ( Get Emotions Out ).
Currently we meet at the following venues, On a Tuesday 6-8pm at Baysgarth school, On a Wednesday at the HULL4HEROES office in Princess Quay 3rd floor, and on Wednesday 8th March we start a brand new group at the veterans hub in Scunthorpe 6-8pm, see HULL4HEROES website for further details.
Veterans struggle to talk, especially to civilians, GEO has been designed to accommodate veterans and serving military males from all of the forces. There is lots of banter at these meetings, which is all in fun and no one takes it to heart, as that’s part of military life.
We can signpost help to anyone who is struggling, as the charity has a welfare officer who has lots of contacts for all different organisations.
It is a safe environment and each session has a facilitator who runs the session.
We start the group by asking each person how’s your week been, which is an open question and is designed to get all those that attend talking.
It’s ok if a person doesn’t feel comfortable in talking, that time will come there is no pressure.
Each question is designed to stimulate a conversation among the group.
Since GEO was launched in October 2021 we know we have saved 5 lives, because they have told us, they had a suicide plan, and since coming to GEO that plan has been torn up.
GEO in Barton is slightly different because George was from Barton, and because his death affected so many people, it was decided we need to open it to non military personnel, which has also seen a great response and continues to grow in numbers.
The money raised from the Mayors fund will help keep GEO going, and also promote this incredible group, it will also allow HULL4HEROES, to take our veterans on trips etc to help with there mental health.
Thank you for buying a ticket for the Tower Top Tour of the Humber Bridge.
